Introduction
Abstraction is when something doesn't quite make sense or look right.
It can be a ordinary every day thing that someone has made to look different and not right like it isnt what it looks like or seems to be. It isn't rap life it is just life and whatever way you want to see it.

This slideshow is a presentation of 3 photographers and their art, this was a whole class project that we all got given and basically the task was to write about the three artists and their work on a slide that explains who they are when they did photography and art and why the picture was that we got shown on a piece of paper.
My first abstract photographs
(including home learning photographs)
These pictures have a bit of a reoccurring feature and that is the nature in the pictures, things like logs, trees and grass, I already like taking photographs of that sort of stuff but photographing nature is my favourite type of photography . I quite like the look of the camera sitting on something and then taking the picture of what the camera can see whilst sitting on that object. I also enjoyed taking the picture maybe at a strange angle to abstract what it actually is, rather than taking it the right way up and making it obvious what it was. I feel that all of these put together make a good combination of factors.

This is my favourite image out of the thirty that I have taken. It just focused on the exact right spot, and I thought that the few spikes of grass in the fore ground (which happened by accident) were nice touch and also the fact that it only focused on one little bit out of the whole frame and the rest of it was so out of focus, it kind of shows one extreme and the other.
EBI
If I focused a bit more on the horizon , it isn't straight and that is really annoying, if I took a little bit more time looking at the horizon and not as much on the focusing then I think I could have got it exactly perfect.

This image is my least favourite that I took out of the thirty, The things that I do like about this picture is the colour and what the picture was taken of. First, the colour, I like the orange mixed with the greens and how the branches blend in with all the other colours. The actual thing I was taking a picture of is actually one of the only things that I liked out of this whole picture, in real life the tree that is in this picture looks amazing and colourful and I wish I took the image better.
EBI
I think the thing that could have been better about this image is defiantly how far away I was when I took it, this was taken from far away and zoomed in but if I had gone closer and taken the picture I think it could have been better.

Abstract photographers that I like
.Minor White
I really like the way that in all the pictures he takes they always a bit dark and gloomy, it almost has a creepy sinister sense to it. I also like his use of including the sky in lots of his images andsomehow making them all seem so bright and supernatural ina way. .Wolfgang Tillmans .the thing that I like most about his photography is that he uses colour and light so well and makes these kind of clean and perfect images that seem so pristine and white. .Franco Fontana .I like his use of the country side and the sky, it makes it seem so bright and colourful and that is exactly what i want to do abstraction, I want to get lots of pictures of nature and trees and things like that and I want to ale them really bright and colourful wether that is through editing or that the image is just very colourful and bright .Uta Barth .Barth is a contemporary photographer who focuses on light and space. She often takes pictures that are out of focus deliberately to draw attention to the quality of the light rather than what the picture represents |
What do I hope to get out of abstract photography?
The thing that I hope to get from photography is to improve my normal photography, my normal photography is usually quite abstract anyway and that is the sort of thing that I like to do in photography so I hope to improve my average day to day photography. The reason that I like abstract photography is that it is the only type of photography that I feel like I might be the best at in a way because in general I am better at expressing myself through abstract photography (with I have always been better at) than just doing abstract photography with no objective.
Outcome of photos on website
Since I am not doing the dark room work this is what I am doing instead, I am just choosing my favourite images that have taken so far and putting them all in one place, four of them were taken outside of school but the other four were taken inside school, I mainly used an equal amount of each because there are ones that I like from inside and outside.
Two photographers assessment
.Akihiko Myoshi
Akihiko Myoshi is a contemporary photographer who focuses on the intersection between technology and art, this photograph as you can see is taken with a very old camera with is interesting, he is interested in technology but yet he uses a camera with would never be used in the modern day. The way that he made this picture hi lighted with those colours is by putting tape of different colours over the camera lens.
In a group of his pictures you can see that he plays with one of the main things that makes a picture a picture, two dimensions, his tape and mirrors makes the two dimensional almost three dimensional, some of his abstract pictures are more colourful than others but they all use mirrors, some of them are edited after but a few of them are just raw taken and then he puts them out for public viewing, as you can see this one has not really been edited, possibly a little bit but all the colour is man made all he had to do is get a bit or colourful tape and stuck it over the top of the lens and if he focuses on him self then you can't really see the the outline of the tape.

Bill Armstrong
bill Armstrong as you can see is interested in taking pictures that are very colourful and often unfocused, he makes his picture by taking pictures of other photographs and they are so colourful because he sometimes paints over the top of his images just to bring out all the colour that is possible. |
Final outcome disruption photos (Akihiko Myoshi)
Final outcome
For my final outcome I used the pictures above which are in the style of Akihiko Myoshi, he made some pictures that are disrupted by colourful tape, the way he did it was he had this big camera and over the lens he put colourful tape to make the picture look as if it had colourful highlights. I did this but slightly differently, I combined the natural look of the rest of the pictures and his idea of disrupting them and made this transparent paper thing that had lots of colourful and see through tape on it and went outside, held it in front of the camera and it made the picture look like the picture was colourful. This was more effective than I thought it would be, in the first place i was not even expecting to use this as a final piece but then I looked at them and they were supprisingly more abstract and generally better than expected.
abstraction evaluation
Abstraction has been a very helpful project for me especially solidifying what themes, techinques and styles I like, I think for the past two projects were very much me experementing with what I want my main themes to be in this gcse and now I feel as if I have really found what I like in photography. I have learnt a fair few things from abstraction and one is that photography dosent always have to make sense and that made me really think about photography differently and I think that as a result I like abstract photography just as much or even more than I like normal photography. I also ventured into very different types of photography for example slides, this made me have to get creative and make a little intricate slide what I want it to be, I enjoyed this alot and will possibly use slides again. This project has really pointed me in the direction that i wanted to go in and I think that I am taking alot of information from this and maybe taking it to the next project.
